NEW FREEDOM, PENNSYLVANIA – Northern Central Railway of York (NCR), an excursion railroad located in New Freedom, Pennsylvania that offers authentic educational and entertainment experiences, is pleased to announce their Ages of the Railroad 10th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ages of the Railroad is a family-friendly event that will offer a celebration of railroad history all ages can enjoy. Guests can catch a ride on the rails as part of a variety of train excursions, engine parades, a double steam header, and explore cowboy culture with the Outlaws and Peacemakers. As part of the celebration, Northern Central Railway is honored to welcome guests to get up close to a rare, 1928 coal-burning standard gauge 0-4-0 tank steam locomotive, known as the Jeddo Coal “MACK” No. 85, which is being brought to the area for a limited time as part of the celebration. Additional activities and adventures will include a display of Prince of Leige, living history demonstrations, a special book signing with Robert L. Williams (author of over 30 books including Images of Rail Northern Central Railway), and interactive S.T.E.A.M. activities for children. A variety of locomotives will be on-site and available to explore throughout the weekend, including NCR’s own William H. Simpson No. 17. “As we reflect on the past 10 years, we do so with gratitude for our founders, William “Bill” H. Simpson and D. Reed Anderson, who both had a great love of York County and trains and turned their passion into the historic attraction we operate today. We are so excited to share our origin story, vision of our founders, and accomplishments over the past 10 years with guests during our adventure-packed celebration,” added Zimmerman.
The Ages of the Railroad 10th Anniversary Celebration is proudly sponsored by The Cultural Alliance of York County and in part by The National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support is provided by New Freedom Roasting Company & Deli.
