Railroad Line Donates Children’s Book to York County Libraries
York, PA, June 3rd – The Northern Central Railway of York, an excursion railroad based in New Freedom, recently donated copies of its children’s book “All Aboard” Starts with A to each of the sixteen libraries in the York County Library System. The book is a part of Northern Central Railway of York’s S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Art and Math) program.
“All Aboard” Starts with A was commissioned by the Northern Central Railway and written by local children’s author Anthony D. Fredericks. Fredericks, a nationally recognized and award-winning writer, created an alphabet book that shares selected insights about trains along with fascinating facts and compelling railroad stories (the NCR line is the same rail line that transported Abraham Lincoln to Gettysburg). Also included is information about famous people who have ridden this historic train, how trains operate, and some of the beautiful scenery along the rail line. The book was illustrated by noted York County artist Phyllis Disher Fredericks.
The Northern Central Railway of York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization. This authentic attraction, with a replica 1860s steam locomotive and a GP9 diesel engine, offers a variety of York County excursions. Riders meet presidents and generals, experience the Wild West, enjoy special holiday excursions, and travel along the rails that helped build this nation.
“This donation to the libraries of York County offers children a unique opportunity to learn about local history,” says Ashley Zimmerman, NCRs Director of Development and Sustainability. “The book also opens their eyes to the magic of trains, the lure of train travel, and the stories that make railroads so interesting.”
Copies of “All Aboard” Starts with A are available from any one of the sixteen York County Libraries. Check out https://www.yorklibraries.org for the location of your nearest library.
Another part of Northern Central Railway of York’s S.T.E.A.M. program is the summer camp program. Back by popular demand, this year’s summer camp has been expanded into four separate weeks: June 20-24; June 27-July 1; July 25-29; and Aug. 1-5. Interest is high, and slots are filling up quickly. Make a reservation; change a life!
