Northern Central Railway of York Appoints Jennifer Krieg as Superintendent Operations Manager
Local nonprofit, excursion-based railroad becomes predominantly female-led for the first time in the organization’s history.
New Freedom, Pennsylvania – Northern Central Railway of York (NCR) is pleased to announce that Jennifer Krieg has been named the organization’s new superintendent operations manager. Krieg will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the organization’s 1860s replica steam locomotive, authentic Pennsylvania Railroad 1959 diesel engine, new GE 80-ton diesel locomotive, and eight passenger cars. Her role in ensuring the longevity and safety of NCR’s railway equipment is pivotal to the organization that offers historical, educational, and entertainment experiences to guests of all ages.
In 2020, Krieg began her career at NCR as a fireman on the organization’s 1860s-replica steam engine, known as the William H. Simpson No. 17. As her role evolved within the organization, she served as an engineer on the steam engine and GP-9 diesel engine.
“I am excited to step into this new role and leverage my expertise and industry experience to help Northern Central Railway of York keep their beloved trains and passenger cars in strong, working order. The crew at NCR is great, and I enjoy working alongside them to help the organization continue to provide fantastic experiences for our community members and tourists,” said Krieg, superintendent operations manager.
The appointment of Krieg as superintendent operations manager is monumental because it positions NCR as a predominantly female-led organization for the first time in its history. In addition to Krieg, NCR is led by Ashley Zimmerman, executive director, and Jody Anderson Leighty, chair of the board of directors.
“It is a thrilling time at Northern Central Railway of York, and I am eager to work alongside Jennifer to continue creating memorable, rail-based experiences that educate, entertain, and enlighten guests,” shared Ashley Zimmerman, executive director. “I am certain Jennifer’s strong work ethic, knowledge of NCR’s trains and passenger cars, and passion for the railroad industry will enable her to make positive contributions to our organization.”
